COVID-19 Updates

Please visit this page for any general COVID-19 related updates regarding music therapy at LIH.  For more information please contact us and a team member will connect with you.  Please know our response time may be delayed due to adjusted staffing and office hours as we navigate COVID-19.

Update January 4, 2022
The LIH waiting room is open to be utilized with the use of a face covering. Please limit your stay in our waiting room to ten minutes or less. Per your comfort, LIH staff will still be available to meet scheduled clients at the entrance to the facility at the scheduled session start time. LIH West Salem will adjust flow of clinic traffic to entrance and exit via the front door of the facility.

The following service delivery options are available following service navigation:

Update August 17, 2021
With the use of PPE at all of our indoor facility locations, we continue to provide services in a way that allows us to operate as we had prior to the beginning of the pandemic. We have opened a new clinic location in Black River Falls which will allow us to utilize our mobile studio in other communities beginning in September of 2021. If you have specific questions about our methods of service delivery or are interested in services, please contact us via hello@lihmt.com.

The following service delivery options are available:
– In-person sessions with PPE (All LIH facility locations)
– Outdoor group services in multiple community locations (please inquire for specific locations of current groups)
– Virtual Sessions

We are not currently providing the following services:
– Community-based/In-home services in private residences

Coming soon:
– Mobile Music Therapy Studio to provide services in specific communities

Update June 11, 2020 – Beginning July 8, 2020**, we will resume facility-based in-person services. For clients who do not wish to meet in person, we will continue to offer services in our Modified In-Person environments and virtually (via Telehealth). In-home services will not resume until a later date (TBD/Fall 2020**).

**Subject to change in the event of significant COVID-19 changes in our community.

In-person services will closely resemble our traditional music therapy setting; however, additional equipment and protocols will be used in an effort to protect you, our clients, LIH staff and their families, and our community. Various temporary precautions will be followed by LIH staff and clients receiving services in person will be expected to join in our efforts as well. Some of these changes include the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) during sessions, increased cleaning procedures, modified flow and utilization of our facility spaces, staggered appointment times, offering to meet outside (weather permitting), and the use of moveable partitions within sessions (when applicable). Our policies and practices may fluctuate based upon the information we receive from the La Crosse County Coulee COVID-19 Compass https://lacrossecounty.org/covid19.

If you would like to meet in person (in a treatment room, in the modified in-person environment, or outdoors), you will be asked to complete a consent form. Please review this consent form to read more about the modifications we have implemented as we begin to accommodate in-person services.
In-Person Service Consent Form/Modifications

Current clients: We ask that all clients complete this form so we know that all clients have been made aware of our current service options. Please complete this short form by Tuesday, 6/16/2020: Updated Service Delivery Method Form
Note: You will be asked to confirm your email address or phone number so please check your spam folder for password.

Updated May 28, 2020 – We invite you to see the work we’ve been up to over the past two months! Be sure to take a look if you are curious about what music therapy looks like via Telehealth or within a modified in-person setting. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SeGZfCUkUdg&t=1s

Update for future services: We are planning to continue offering the following services 1) Telehealth and 2) Modified In-Person services until further notice. If you wish to restart postponed services we have availability to schedule at the following locations: Virtual (Telehealth), West Salem, Tomah, Viroqua. If these options do not currently meet your needs we invite you to discuss alternatives such as receiving services in a confidential outdoor location. Please do not hesitate to bring any concerns or ideas forward with your music therapist.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we continue to determine the best timeline for our clients, staff, and services to return to traditional face-to-face services (with additional precautions). We anticipate adding face-to-face services (at an LIH facility) as a service option beginning July 6, 2020. This would be in addition to the current services we have available (Telehelath and Modified in-person sessions). Future face-to-face services will take place with additional precautions in place such as masks, limited individuals in our facility, social distancing, etc. This date is subject to change if there are new recommendations from DHS, CDC, or the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA). We have not determined a date when in-home services will be available as these visits present additional challenges in keeping clients and staff safe. We are continuing to explore a date when services will be able to resume at our Black River Falls outreach location (Black River Falls United Methodist Church).

For questions or schedule availability please contact your primary therapist. Our front desk is not currently staffed and email and phone correspondences may be delayed. If you have prepaid for your services and do not foresee beginning services again in the future please contact me directly to discuss a refund of your available credits. We look forward to continuing to bring creative and purposeful service options to our community as we navigate COVID-19 together.  ~ Amy Schaack, Director of Services (amy@lihmt.com)

Updated May 1, 2020 – With the extension of the Safer at Home order we plan to continue our modified service delivery methods through the end of May (and possibly beyond). These delivery methods include 1) Telehealth and 2) Modified In-Person Services (through a full glass/plexiglass barrier). We have a modified our space in West Salem, Tomah, and Viroqua. We have had a successful transition to this new approach and we are so thankful to our clients and team of innovative music therapists for showing resiliency and being open to trying something new! We hope that Telehealth remains a service option even after we resume a more “normal” service delivery method as we have found it incredibly useful for many of our clients and consumers. For clients who requested to postpone services due to COVID-19: We hope you are staying healthy and we miss seeing you! If you would like to discuss options for resuming services in May please contact your music therapist directly or contact hello@lihmt.com. We’ll include you in any emails about summer service offerings but please do not feel pressure to resume services until you’re ready.

Looking ahead/Summer 2020: We are keeping up to date on the facts and information shared by the La Crosse County Health Department and the Wisconsin Department of Health Services. We will be continuing to evaluate the best plan moving forward with summer services with anticipation of resuming face-to-face services at our facility for clients who are able to practice social distancing. LIH is unsure when we will resume in-home services but encourage families to explore Telehealth options (if appropriate). We will update you when we have more information.

Updated March 31, 2020 – Beginning April 6, we will be offering Telehealth services and modified in-person music therapy sessions (using a plexiglass or glass barrier).
